A Mission

St. Joseph Seminary is blessed with the mission of forming men for priestly service in dioceses across Western Canada. We will depend on these priests to nurture the precious gift of our faith as they serve thousands of Catholics in the years to come. Newman Theological College delivers the academic program for the seminary, and also offers the only Roman Catholic graduate theological education for lay people in Western Canada. Our graduates are the very face of our Church, working in parishes, schools, hospitals, prisons, missions and inner city ministries – anywhere we can bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bear on life in our community.

A Moment

The Cornerstone of Faith campaign offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the building of a campus that will be not only a landmark into the next century, but a legacy of commitment to the faith of our ancestors. The seminary, the first to be built in Canada in the new millennium, is a unique symbol of our faith and allows us to proclaim in architecture the beauty of the Gospel. The college is a state-ofthe-art centre for theological education. Their construction is but one moment in a long history. And this moment offers a blessed opportunity to be part of that history.

A Call

Construction of a major thoroughfare next to the original seminary and college in north Edmonton has prompted their relocation to land owned by the Archdiocese in the heart of the city. Proceeds from the sale of the north Edmonton property ($42 million) have been invested in the new facilities. Another $15 million is needed to cover recent very high construction costs. We are called to help build our faith for generations to come. A gift to the Cornerstone of Faith campaign is our answer to that call.

A Gift

St. Paul reminds us (Romans 12:6-8) that each has gifts that differ according to the grace given by God, and that each is called to respond generously to God’s goodness by using these gifts for His purpose. The seminary and associated college are essential to the development of our future faith leaders. Your gift will help ensure their vital mission continues. Take this moment to become part of the Cornerstone, the foundation on which we together build something much greater than any of us. Heavenly Father,

We thank you for the gifts you graciously give us.
Through our communion with your Son, may we have the strength and courage to use these gifts boldly and joyfully for your glory.

You have granted to our Archdiocese the unique opportunity to serve the Church by constructing the new St. Joseph Seminary and Newman Theological College. We pray for the Holy Spirit’s gifts of wisdom and knowledge as we work to ensure the future of these institutions of priestly and lay formation.

May the hearts of our people be fully open to your call. Grant an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Help our lay people to respond to your call to serve the Church and announce the Gospel to our world.

We make this prayer through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Cornerstone of Faith.
