Vocations

The Lord calls each of one of us to live holy lives by entering into a unique relationship with Him by committing one’s life to one of the following particular vocations: Holy Orders (the priesthood and permanent diaconate), Consecrated Life (religious institutes, private & public associations of the faithful, secular institutes, and consecrated virgins), Married Life, and the Single Holy Life.

The Office of Vocations assists the faithful in discerning their vocations and has a particular mandate to promote vocations to the priesthood.

Called by Name

What does it take to become a priest? You might be surprised. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese of Edmonton is pleased to present “Called By Name,” a new video series that tells the stories of six men who took very different paths to priesthood. This month, our featured priest is Father Michael Schumacher. When a friend asked Michael if he’d ever considered being a priest, he thought he was crazy for asking, because Michael was in a serious relationship. After attending World Youth Day in Toronto, he knew God had other plans for him. Today Father Michael serves as pastor at St. Martin of Tours in Vegreville and the associated parishes in Viking and Holden. Click below to watch the video, and please feel free to share his story!

Wondering about Religious Life?

Abide YEG is a great new resource for young adults in the Year of Consecrated Life. The blog includes excellent podcasts by Father Glenn, who uses the Gospel of John to address questions that young adults have told us are at top of mind in today's world. He is assisted by a university student who is discerning, and together they post answers to all kinds of questions about religious life, and life in general. Be sure to share with anyone you know who may be wondering ... http://abideyeg.blogspot.ca/

Come and See Weekend at the Seminary

February 26-28, 2016

Twice a year, the Archdiocese of Edmonton offers a weekend live-in experience for men who are discerning a call to the priesthood. We call them “Come and See Weekends” and they are held at St. Joseph Seminary. If you’ve been thinking and talking about the priesthood, a Come and See Weekend will provide an opportunity to ask your questions, express your concerns, meet other seminarians and pray for God’s will. There is no cost to you, no obligations.

Registration forms can be obtained from the Vocation Director of your diocese. If you need that name & number, please contact Yvonne at the Edmonton Vocation Office & St. Joseph Seminary: 780 392 2445 or email vocationsadmin@caedm.ca or email using the Contact Us link and selecting Vocations.

Exiit Qui Seminat

The seminarians produce their own newsletter twice a year. Get a glimpse of these men and their life at St. Joseph Seminary by downloading the latest issue of Exiit Qui Seminat.

Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father,
bless your Church in the
Archdiocese of Edmonton
with an abundance of holy and zealous priests,
deacons, religious, and seminarians.

Give those You have called to the married state
and those You have chosen to live as
single persons in the world, the special graces
that their lives require.

Form us all in the likeness of Your Son
so that in Him, with Him, and through Him
we may love You more deeply
and serve You more faithfully,
always and everywhere.

With the virgin mother Mary we ask this
through Christ your Son.

Amen.
