Laura Thibert wants to bring the voices of Catholic constituents back to the board table this fall.

Thibert is running for re-election to a third term as trustee for Ward 77 in southeast Edmonton.

“As a trustee, one of the key roles you play is public engagement,” said Thibert, a former chair of the Edmonton Catholic school board. “To be able to really bring the voices of your Catholic constituents who vote for you to the table, and to be able to take all those bits of information to make the best informed decisions, but always in the interest of the students in the classroom.”

“The kids in the classroom have to be our number one focus.”

As trustee, Thibert, whose four children are current students and graduates of Edmonton Catholic Schools, hopes to keep protecting publicly-funded Catholic education. It’s at the top of her priority list.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Thibert and her husband are the owners and operators of a carpentry business.

Her education in non-profit management has given her the knowledge needed to work with the board, with one voice, she said.

Thibert is active in Corpus Christi parish, and in the community. She is a member of the Newman Theological College academic senate, and a former parent council chair at St. Kateri Catholic Elementary School.

Thibert is running against Kristin Heimbecker and Kara Pelech. Edmontonians head to the polls on Oct. 16.
