On April 15, 2014, Archbishop Emeritus Joseph MacNeil celebrated his 90th birthday. Serving the Archdiocese of Edmonton from 1973-1999 as Archbishop and from 1999 until his passing in 2018 as Archbishop Emeritus, MacNeil was a true shepherd to us for over 40 years.
Below is an assortment of photographs from the Archives of The Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton and The Western Catholic Reporter. These photographs provide a snapshot of Archbishop MacNeil's life from his graduation in 1944 onward. The photo gallery below includes photographs from his time at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax, as a Canon Law student in Rome, as a young priest in Nova Scotia, his Episcopal Ordination, and during his decades of service in the Archdiocese of Edmonton.
