It is with sadness that we inform you that Monsignor Fee Otterson died on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at the age of 89.

Monsignor Otterson studied at St. Joseph Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood on February 8, 1948, by Archbishop J.H. MacDonald.

Monsignor Otterson devoted the next 60 years serving the Catholic people of Edmonton, including over 30 years as a teacher/administrator with Edmonton Catholic Schools.

He served six years as a teacher at St. Joseph High School, six years as principal and teacher at St. Mary High School, and 22 years teaching at Austin O’Brien High School. Everywhere,he earned the respect and love of staff and students alike. Although Monsignor Otterson retired from Austin O’Brien in 1985, he continued to celebrate the Graduation Mass each year. As a measure of the esteem in which he was held, Edmonton Catholic Schools named an elementary/junior high school in southwest Edmonton after Monsignor Otterson.

After his retirement from teaching, Monsignor Otterson continued to work for Catholic Education as the Alberta Bishops’ representative to the Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association. He also served as Associate Pastor and then Pastor at St. John the Evangelist Parish in west Edmonton before retiring from active ministry.

We offer our sincere condolences to his family, relatives and many friends and former students.
