It's Briar week in Edmonton all right, but did you know about the other major bonspiel taking place in the city? Twenty-two teams from across Canada are competing at the Shamrock Curling Club in the annual Friars Briar, an event aimed at promoting fine fellowship and good curling on a national basis among clergy persons and their associates.
The humble defending champions hail from the Archdiocese of Edmonton. Father Patrick Baska skips the rink, backed up by Father Jim Corrigan, Father Paul Moret and Father Martin Carroll. They opened their 2013 run with a convincing 6-3 win over the Father Leo Floyd rink on Monday.
Competition continues all week, with playoffs beginning Thursday and finals set for Friday. Everybody is welcome to cheer on our champs. All games are played during the day at the Shamrock Club, 9330 - 80 Avenue, Edmonton.
