The Archdiocese of Edmonton has been blessed by the ordination of two new priests on Friday, July 5: Reverend Carlos Nunez and Reverend Luan Vu.

In his homily during the Mass of Ordination, Archbishop Richard Smith said, "The daily gift the priest makes of himself finds its most beautiful expression in mercy toward others. Christ teaches in the Gospel that sacrifice separated from mercy does not accord with the will of God.

"Indeed, his death on the Cross manifested perfectly their oneness. Whether in the sacrament of reconciliation, in acts of charity or in advocating for the voiceless, the priest extends to others the mercy of Christ poured out anew upon the world every time the sacrifice of the Cross is renewed in the Mass.

"Carlos and Luan, I do not know if you have the natural artistic talent of a Caravaggio. By ordination, though, you do receive the supernatural gifts necessary to fashion by your priestly ministry a beautiful portrait of the loving and merciful Christ. Be faithful to your calling always, and pray daily that your particular artistry will draw many into the mystery and joy of Christ's call to life and discipleship."

Father Carlos will serve as associate pastor at Good Shepherd Parish in Edmonton, while Father Luan  will serve as associate pastor at St. Theresa Parish in Edmonton.
