On February 24, Archbishop Richard Smith visited Ben Calf Robe-St. Clare School, an Edmonton Catholic School that serves First Nations students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. There, he spoke to students about the legacy of Indian Residential Schools and presented a letter addressed to all Catholics, on behalf of the seven Catholic Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. In the letter, the bishops invite the faithful to participate in the March 27-30 Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) event in Edmonton, and they also express an apology to those who suffered harm at the Indian Residential Schools that were administered by Catholic dioceses or religious communities.
