Rev. Dean Dowle has been appointed to serve as part-time district chaplain for Edmonton Catholic Schools, effective October 27, 2014. Father Dean will share chaplain duties with Rev. Julian Bilyj of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton.

Father Dean was born in Edmonton, raised in Fort Saskatchewan and ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Edmonton in 2010. He served in parish ministry at St. Theresa’s and St. Joseph’s Basilica before beginning graduate studies at Saint Paul University in Ottawa. He will continue to serve as Adjunct Judicial Vicar of the Alberta Rev. Dean DowleInterdiocesan Tribunal, a ministry he began this year after completing his Licentiate in Canon Law.

Father Dean said he is looking forward to this new ministerial challenge.

“I consider it a privilege, a humble honour, and most of all, a sincere joy to be able to serve the students, staff, parents and trustees of Edmonton Catholic Schools,” he said.

“Catholic education is one of the finest gifts of the Church, and therefore its value is most appreciated when shared with all in the genuine love and spirit of Christ.”

Archbishop Richard Smith noted that the Archdiocese is blessed by a close and collaborative relationship with Edmonton Catholic Schools, and said he is confident that this relationship will continue to blossom through the chaplaincy of Father Dean.
