The Year of Consecrated Life was inaugurated on November 29 with a Prayer Vigil in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, and will end on February 2, 2016, with the celebration of the World Day for Consecrated Life.

The launch coincides with the 50th anniversary of the publication of Perfectae Caritatis, the Second Vatican Council Decree on the Adaptation and Renewal of Religious Life, promulgated on October 28, 1965. Pope Francis has written an Apostolic Letter to All Consecrated People on the occasion of this special year, inviting them to.look to the past with gratitude, live the present with passion, and embrace the future with hope.

The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has also released a letter to consecrated men and women entitled "Rejoice". Dioceses and religious communities in Canada and throughout the world are organizing events and initiatives as part of the year, in addition to the international celebrations and meetings which will be held in Rome.

The Canadian Religious Conference (CRC) has posted a new section on its website entitled "Year of Consecrated Life." Among the resources there is this video message of Sister Rita Larivée, S.S.A., President of the CRC.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has also created a special section on its website to offer news, links and resources for the Year of Consecrated Life.

Let us pray in a special way over the next 14 months for the consecrated women and men who have blessed us with their service in the Archdiocese of Edmonton.
