In a letter being shared in parishes of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton this weekend, Archbishop Smith speaks to parishioners about Bill 10, gay-straight alliances, and the Catholic schools' inclusive approach to protecting children from bullying or intimidation of any kind.

Archbishop Smith said some of the media coverage of these issues may have caused concern and confusion among Catholic parents, and he felt it was time to address parishioners directly.

"The commentary has not always been kind to the leadership of our Catholic schools, and might lead one to conclude from our principled objections to certain aspects of Bill 10 that we have little concern for students of same-sex attraction," the Archbishop writes. "Nothing, of course, could be further from the truth. The purpose of this brief pastoral letter is to offer to the Catholic community what I hope will be some helpful information."
