It was with great sadness that I learned of the tragic loss of nine lives in an apparent case of domestic violence in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan. As Christians, we strive to make our homes into places of love, nurture, safety, and identity. And yet we know that many of our families face extreme hardships today.

I encourage everyone in the Archdiocese of Edmonton to pray for those who were killed in this tragedy, and for their surviving family members and friends. I ask that you pray as well at masses this week for all families, especially those who encounter violence in their own homes, that they may find help and encouragement from their community, and peace in the healing presence of Christ.
