Archbishop Richard Smith has added his voice to those of Pope Francis and other Catholic leaders in denouncing the recent murders of 21 Coptic Christians from Egypt by ISIS.

In a letter to Father Rewis Rofaiel of St. Mary & St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Edmonton, Archbishop Smith has expressed condolences on behalf of the Archdiocese and assured the Coptic community of our prayers and support.

“In the wake of the unspeakable violence perpetrated against your brothers and countrymen in Libya last week, I am writing to express my most profound condolences to you and to the entire Coptic Orthodox community residing here in the Edmonton region,” the letter reads. “At the same time, I want to assure you of my personal prayers and those of all the Catholic community of our Archdiocese, who join with me in expressing deep, deep sadness for the events that have taken place.”
