With praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God, the Archdiocese of Edmonton joyfully announces the ordinations to the Sacred Order of the Diaconate through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit by His Grace, Most Rev. Richard Smith,  Archbishop of Edmonton, on Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. St. Joseph’s Basilica.

The following men are to be ordained as permanent deacons:

  • Michael Hall, St. Anthony Parish, Lloydminister
  • Joseph Leuwer, St. Charles Parish, Edmonton
  • Michael Pucylo, St. Agnes-St. Anthony Parishes, Edmonton
  • Paul Tam, Mary Help of Christians (Chinese), Edmonton
Permanent deacons are commissioned to preach, to teach, to counsel and to give spiritual guidance. They baptize, witness marriages, and preside at wake services and funerals. In all that they do, permanent deacons act as servants of the Church. With the ordinations, the number of permanent deacons in the Archdiocese will grow to 33.
