The Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association, together with Alberta’s Bishops, will be holding information sessions for prospective Catholic school trustee candidates in the October 2017 elections.

Sessions will be held in each Alberta diocese during May and June. About two hours in length, they will include presentations by ACSTA elected officials, administration and the local bishop.

If you are considering becoming a Catholic School Trustee, these information sessions are a great way to learn more about the role of trustee, the uniqueness of the Catholic trustee, and the relationship with the local Bishop. As well, you can get answers to any questions you may have and guidance on resources available.

In the Archdiocese of Edmonton, the information session with Archbishop Smith is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, at St. Brendan School, 9260 - 58 Street NW, Edmonton. Dates for the events in the other Alberta dioceses are:

  • May 25 - Fort McMurray - St. Paul’s Parish - 7 p.m. – with Bishop Paul Terrio
  • June 7 - Grande Prairie - St. Joseph School  -7 p.m. – with Archbishop Gerard Pettitpas
  • June 8 - Calgary - Location TBD - 7 p.m. – with Bishop McGrattan

“We want to emphasize that the information sessions in no way support a particular candidate or affiliation, and are not being held to provide a means of debate among candidates,” the ACSTA said Tuesday in a news release. “This is not a forum for candidates to speak; this is for the education of potential trustees and to explain the process.”
