IX World Meeting of Families

The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World

Join us in Dublin, Ireland, August 21-26, 2018

Founded by Saint John Paul II in 1992, the World Meeting of Families or WMF takes place in a different country every three years and seeks to strengthen the sacred bonds of family life while giving families an opportunity to meet and celebrate together.

At the Meeting, you can celebrate Mass together and participate in a wide variety of activities, including catechesis with distinguished world-renowned speakers, engaging participants in critical questions affecting family life today.

The WMF is sponsored by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, which “promotes the pastoral care of families, protects their rights and dignity in the Church and in civil society, so that they may ever be more able to fulfill their duties.” (Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus, 1988, #139)

Pope Francis announced that the next World Meeting of Families will take place in Dublin, Ireland in August 2018. The catechetical programme to guide the WMF 2018 will largely draw from the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) published by Pope Francis in March 2016.

Who is invited?

You are! Entire families, pastoral agents, Family and Life parish coordinators, priests, consecrated religious, parents and grandparents, young and old come from all parts of the globe to attend the WMF. Anyone who wishes to celebrate family and who wishes to deepen their understanding of family in the light of faith is most welcome.

What about the Holy Father?

Pope Francis attended the closing Mass at the WMF 2015 in the USA. His attendance in Ireland 2018 is yet to be confirmed.

Make it a Pilgrimage

Why not combine your attendance at the World Meeting of Families with an unforgettable pilgrimage to the holy places and scenic wonders of the land of St. Patrick? Spiritours is offering a 16-day pilgrimage tour, departing from Edmonton on August 13, 2018, and is now accepting bookings.
